Let There Be Light!
By:           Kim and Jeremy   |   Nov 6th, 2015

Stage:     Electrical     |    Week 28-58

Story: The electrical "walk though" is a mysterious event for the uninitiated. At first it seems easy....a light here a plug there, what's the problem?

Well what about the switches for instance? Do you want to turn the light on from the shower or the bed? Do you want four lights on one switch or just three... or just two... or how about one switch for every light? That way you could have total control of every light. That sounds good...right. Wrong.

There are so many decisions to be made that we found it was imperative to have a good electrician. And Tim (of Neumann Industries) was not just good, he was fantastic. Patient, clear, and accommodating; we could not have wished for better. Here are a few images of Tim at work.

Lunchtime....

And here are a few of the lights Tim hung. Sadly, almost all of them had to come from other countries as it was so difficult to find interesting, unusual lighting in Canada.

But let's start with a light from Canada. Kim and I bought this light about 15 years ago now. It was made by a young glass blower working from his old broken down garage behind his very modest home in Ucluelet. We have kept it in the basement until now. Tim modified it to pass inspection and hung it on the wall. We love the shards of light it casts on the walls and ceilings of the hallway.

One of my favorite lights. It is organic looking to me and casts a gorgeous, deeply dimensional light against the kalklitir walls.

This is a light from India that I bought for Kim about 15 years ago. Again, patiently, Tim modified the light to pass code and hung it above the dinning room table. Behind the light are our Gothic windows! More about these in the next posts!

These are our great room lights. They cast a magical, patterned glow on the walls. Tim had to drill through a 16" by 16" beam to install these. Thanks Tim!

And all the while, Jacko looked on from the well-worn passenger seat of Graham's truck....
